Mini Rant: Why I Think UV Filters Are Useless

In this video I go on a mini rant about UV filters. I personally don’t see the point in putting a cheap piece of glass on an expensive lens.

Back in the days of shooting film, a UV filter actually had a purpose, but for shooting digital it seems obsolete. Other than keeping dust off the front of your lens, I don’t see any real benefit to using a UV filter and in fact, I think it’s completely unnecessary.

A UV filter reduces image resolution. Reduces the amount of light that goes into your lens. Adds flare and ghost images to your photos. Is protecting you lens from some dust worth it?
